Patrick Tyro-Burns is a dedicated and highly experienced leader in the field of human services, with a career spanning over 30 years. He began his journey as a youth worker in Victoria, working in residential group homes. Driven by a passion for supporting vulnerable people, Patrick then traveled overseas, where he worked as a Social Worker for the London Boroughs of Southwark and Westminster, assisting vulnerable children and their families.
Upon returning to Australia, Patrick moved to Queensland and held senior positions in the Department of Communities, focusing on aged care, disabilities, child protection and mental health. Notably, he was a key developer of Queensland’s first non-government mental health plan for the community sector. His expertise and innovative approach to community service delivery were further refined during his tenure as an Associate Director at KPMG, where he specialised in management consulting within the human services sector.
Patrick spent over eight years at Life Without Barriers, one of Australia’s largest social purpose organisations, where he played a pivotal role in leading the transition of state-run disability services in New South Wales and Victoria to Life Without Barriers. His leadership and strategic vision were instrumental in enhancing the quality and reach of services provided to individuals with disability.
Patrick has also served on the boards of two non-profit organisations, bringing his expertise and passion to enhance their impact. He is a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, reflecting his dedication to maintaining high standards of governance and accountability in his professional endeavors.
Patrick's professional journey is deeply driven by his lived experience, which fuel his commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others.
